Meeting opened with Director Bernhard Hoehle reading the Leads Club Purpose statement.

We welcomed back Carlene Delight who says it is so good to be back to work full time!

Missing were Dr Jerry Bottomley, Kazue Fakuda, Christina Scataloni, Dr Dennis Kinnane and Brie Scott-Wells.

Trophy for most Leads for last week went to Dr Rachelle Mand.

We discussed the upcoming Holiday Stroll, Dec 3, 5-9 in Riviera Village. Meeting place will be HT Grill on the corner of Catalina Avenue and Avenue I.

We also discussed the possibility of our Holiday Gift “Exchange” event, tentatively set for December 17. Location to be determined.

LEADS CLUB PRESIDENT, LISA BENTSON, WILL VISIT OUR CHAPTER NEXT WEEK!!! See bio in last week’s minutes.

Our first speaker, Larry Tiberi, “Mr About Exercise,” demonstrated “Why My Bike is More than Just Cool”

He has adjusted his bike to be ergonomically correct. The handlebars are raised to allow an upright position, his seat position is set to allow full power in his legs and he has a basket to carry what he needs. He stressed that ALL sports equipment should be adjusted for each individual. The equipment in his gym is always readjusted for each person’s needs.

He specializes in personal training with resistance and free weights, accommodating for shoulder problems, length of arms, etc.

Myths:

3 exercise sessions/week is enough. 30 minutes/session

If we eat a candy bar, will 1 hour of walking be enough? Probably not. We burn 300 calories walking for 1 hour. BUT, we burn 140 calories just sitting.

“No pain, no gain” philosophy. He prefers a “work to the pain, back off, work to it, not through it” approach.

Body builders rip muscles in order to build. He doesn’t feel that is a healthy approach.

Fat burning: work at 60%? He prefers pushing it to the max.

Build strength, then endurance. If you can walk AND talk, you are NOT walking fast enough.

Does swimming help to lose weight? It depends on how we are swimming. He likes to encourage heavier people to start with a swimming regimen first because there is not as much wear and tear as they begin to exercise.

Stretch before exercise? Warm up vs stretching. Body needs to be warm and have a good range of motion. When you are done working out, then stretch, but don’t push your muscles at that point, it is easy to hurt yourself.

Ice immediately when you injure yourself. It prevents more injury. Ice cools the blood. It helps decrease the pain.

Run 5 miles, recovery time? Every other day. Interval training. Break up routines.

Our second speaker Lawyer, Robert Ciaccio, spoke about “Keeping Your Mouth Shut!” He sited two recent incidents with Tiger Woods and the couple that crashed the White House Party. Tiger’s approach resulted in a minimum fine and points against his driving record. If he or his wife had talked to police or the press and told conflicting stories, it would have given “probable cause” for an investigation.

If you do talk to officials, tell the truth, or it is perjury. That’s what Bill Clinton was guilty of. You have the right to remain silent AND anything you do say can and will be used against you. The police and insurance agents are paid to collect information. We DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE A STATEMENT TO ANOTHER INSURANCE AGENT, ONLY OUR OWN. In the event of an accident, just say, “I’ll speak to you in a few weeks.” We don’t know if we are okay at the scene of an accident. Usually, we are in shock. The other person’s insurance agent often tries to get a statement immediately. Also, if we are pulled over by police, all we are REQUIRED to do is provide license, registration and insurance card. If we do answer questions, we MUST be truthful!

Also, Robert stressed the importance of sufficient insurance coverage on individual units, not just common areas of living complexes. Common area policies do not protect you if something happens inside YOUR unit. The cost is very low/year, often less than 1 1/2 hours of time with a good lawyer afterwards! Tell your friends who live in this type of complex.

The holidays are stressful times. Be wise.

Our third speaker, Mortgage Broker, Andre Hemmersbach, shared an invaluable resource from the website of the Los Angels County Office of the Assessor (http://assessor.lacounty.gov/). There is a scam alert:

Scam Alert – No Fee Necessary for Value Reduction.

Various private companies are again sending mailings to property owners offering their services to pursue a reduction in their property taxes. These companies may charge hundreds of dollars to file for a reduction in value on behalf of the property owner. Some companies are even imposing late fees if the application is received after an arbitrary deadline. Be aware that solicitations from private companies offering to pursue a reduction in property taxes must clearly indicate that they are NOT a government agency and that their services are NOT approved or endorsed by any government agency. Failure to provide such notice is a violation of California law. If you or someone you know receives an illegal solicitation, please contact the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs by phone at (800) 973-3370 or visit their website.

Andre offered his services if you think you deserve a reassessment. Call him!

Andre shared tips from a list of possible exemptions: homeowner’s ($7,000 if you reside there), veteran’s, builder’s, disaster relief, market decline, senior and disabled exclusions. Call him for details.

Filing for a permit can trigger a reassessment if it is beyond maintenance. If you are adding square footage it will trigger a reassessment.

Our theme for the meeting came from Brian Biro’s “BEYOND SUCCESS, The 15 Secrets of a Winning Life.” The three central blocks in the base of John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success are FRIENDSHIP, LOYALTY and COOPERATION. Biro stated that “These three central blocks in the Pyramid of Success must become consistent priorities rather than occasional niceties if you are to master the secrets of a winning life.” Our closing promotionals drew out comments about the value of building these themes in our businesses.

Four Leads were passed, 3 outside and 1 inside. Panned out Leads amounted to $2,390.

Bernhard read the Leads Club Creed and closed the meeting.

Dr Roy Hughes filled in for Director Bernhard Hoehle, opening the meeting by reading the Leads Club Purpose.

Announcements: Lisa Bentson, daughter of Leads Club founder Ally Lassen and current President of Leads International, will visit our chapter on December 8th. Here is a brief bio:

Lisa Bentson began her Leads Club Inc career in 1983 by working with approximately 120 members who participated in seven California Chapters. She advanced to the position of Vice President of Business Development in 1990 and President in 1994.
Today, as President, Bentson oversees operations which provide services to more than 5,000 members in the United States and abroad. Where’s Lisa
She travels throughout the world to share effective networking techniques with women’s opportunity programs, community colleges, national seminars and service clubs. One of her most popular presentations is a half-day, hands-on Focused Networking™ Workshop which she helped develop with Lassen.
“As the founder’s daughter, I lived and breathed networking long before it became a cliché,” Bentson says. “Now Leads Club Inc and the business meaning of a lead is recognized as the highest form of referral. I’m proud that I was there at the beginning.”

This will be a very special treat. Plan to attend!

We will have 3 meetings in December, the 1st, the 8th and the 15th. Lunch dues are $42, due next Tuesday.

Those owing dues in December are: Ally, Carlene, Dennnis, Christina, Roy (Donna and Andre?) Check with Larry

Asley Hornbeck’s emaill address is: misseswonderland@gmail.com. She joined! Mark Johnson also plans to join in December.

Our club will participate in the Holiday Stroll through Riviera Village on December 3rd from 5-9. Meeting places will be announced. Cell phone lists were circulated for corrections and additions.

Trophy presentation for most Leads last week went to Director Bernhard Hoehle

Our first speaker, Pat Welsh is a 19-year veteran of the printing and graphics business. Pat started out with a store-front franchise providing only 1 & 2 color printing. He has changed his business model as the industry has changed, and now provides copywriting, graphich design and the gamut of printing from high-speed copies to full-color catalogues.

Past is a a superb designer, providing “something from nothing and at practically no cost!” He told us a story about being in a service organization and being so embarrassed by the card of one of the members that he went to the website, took the logo and redid the card at no cost. He did NOT want that friend’s card to represent the organization!

Pat is very good at “redoing” logos as well.

He has noticed that many printing businesses have gone out of business, leaving no forwarding address, and, as a result, leaving their customers high and dry. He has been able to recover their losses by recreating their materials, thereby offering them a considerable savings.

Pat also found out, quite by accident, that he is a “low-cost” printing provider. He was approached by one of his customers to provide his costs so that they could compare with a service they were considering. He was very close on several items and lower on several more. He will not raise or lower his prices to match the other company’s prices. In one instance, Pat provides 1000 trifold, four-color brochures for $281, while the competition charges $369! His 4 X 6″ post cards, coated, with 4-color on both sides ran $90, while the “competition” charged $206!

The reason Pat can provide his services for considerably less is that he has a low overhead because he works from home, using his own computer to provide the perfect artwork that trade printers (providers of one product) rely on.

Pat informed us that there are a lot more options for us to choose from; linens, metallics, dye cuts, customized presentation folders to serve a wide variety of needs and tastes. He likes to search out great deals.

Q & A: 4 color IS Full color.

Thank you to our Supreme Commander of Impressive Images, our full-service Graphics and Printing Partner!

Leads and Thank You’s were passed totalling $2545 with 7 Leads, all outside.

Our second speaker, Brie Scott-Wells spoke as a Life Success Consultant on the topic of the Mind and Brain’s different functions.

The mind receives information in electrical impulses. The brain works things out but can get into a rut!

Our job is to alter that rut if we want to achieve change.

The example Brie brought us was the story of a man who had suffered the loss of his right hand in a motorcycle accident. The clenched “phantom limb” caused him severe pain. He finally found a doctor who created a special box fitted with mirrors. The doctor asked him to extend his left hand into the box. He saw the mirror image of his left hand and the doctor asked him to unclench it. When he did, THE PAIN STOPPED!! It seemed miraculous, but it did not last. The patient bought the box from the doctor and was able to repeat the success and have relief from the pain whenever he needed it.

What does this mean to us?

Brie showed us a drawing of a man at the bottom of a spiral staircase. If this represents success at the top, what does that mean? I AM NOT THERE! No one puts themselves a the top, or even mid-way. We need a more holistic picture. Success is NOT linear, it is more of a circular process. The message was that we need to create new pictures in our minds of how to work through problems__we need to think through to solutions, LIKE THE HAND IN THE BOX!

Brie will be offering a free introductory webinar on the “Science of Getting Rich” next week on December 2nd from 7:30 to 8:40. Send her an email and she will send you an invitation to attend.

Brie Scott Wells <BrieWells@lifesuccessconsultants.com>

Our inspirational theme for the meeting was the ENTHUSIASM block of John Wooden’s PYRAMID OF SUCCESS. The quote was “Hard work without enthusiasm leads to tedium. Enthusiasm without industriousness leads to unrealized potential. When they are present together, they cement a solid foundation leading to success.”

Closing promotionals asked members to look out how ENTHUSIASM plays a role in their businesses. Here are a few quotes:

Ken Nagao, said that ENTHUSIASM shows the realism of what we put into our work.

Dr Rachelle Mand stated that ENTHUSIASM goes along with passion.

Donna Doan jokingly said that not many people are ENTHUSIASTIC about taxes but she felt that she is!

Larry Tiberi said that he is ENTHUSIASTIC, even in the early mornings when he helps us work out at his gym!

Dr Roy Hughes loves what he does. He feels that he HAS to be UP in order to help people get well.

Dr Jerry Bottomley said that ENTHUSIASM is the gas that drives the vehicle.

Pat Welsh stated that ENTHUSIASM is easy to come by when he is helping his customer and that his ENTHUSIASM is for the client’s customer who will read the piece that he is helping to create.

Marilyn Hornbeck shared that ENTHUSIASM is the last thing on the mind of the customers of the auto body shop, that they are so full of worries and concerns, but her team specializes in soothing those discomforts.

Ashley Hornbeck says that ENTHUSIASM deals with the negative energy of her massage clients. She uses ENTHUSIASM to deal with their pain in order to help them.

Brie Scott-Wells reminded us of those people who wave the signs around in order to attract us to their businesses. Some are lack luster, some are full of ENTHUSIASM. She has ENTHUSIASM for what she does for her clients.

Dr Dennis Kinnane says that he likes to give people hope with his Chinese herbs and acupuncture treatments. It builds ENTHUSIASM!

Christina Scataloni loves what she is able to offer her clients who need/want health insurance. She loves to introduce new products to better serve her client’s needs.

Dr Hughes closed the meeting by reading the Leads Club Creed.

We missed Robert Ciaccio, Ally Clymore, Bernhard Hoehle, Kazue Fakuda and Carlene Delight. Hope to see you next week!

Leads Club Purpose opened meeting.

Discussion about the Holiday Stroll, December 3 from 5-9 in Riviera Village. A meeting place at the beginning and end was suggested. Cell phone numbers were collected so that we can keep in touch. People will have different interests so we need to allow for shopping, stopping to watch carolers, etc…maybe even a sleigh ride.

Marilyn will clarify the details.

We had four visitors:

Mark Johnson, who specializes in optimizing web marketing.

Ashley Hornbeck, a massage therapist in Rolling Hills Estates.

Connie Butera, who is passionate about web safety for children and other related products to keep our children safe.

Michiko Kojima, whose company offers a variety of translation services.

We missed Carlene, Rachelle and Roy today. Roy was buried in paperwork, Rachelle was on vacation, and Carlene, while making steady progress on her recovery from surgery, was not quite up to attending today. She hopes for next week.

The trophy presentation was shared by Ally and Susie.

Our first speaker, as Chapter Consultant, Brie Scott-Wells traced the history of information sharing from one to many, as in tribe story-tellers and churches, to the next quantum leap with the advent of the printing press which allowed for a few to inform many. Control became an issue. Who could choose what and when? This same mode carried into TV and radio until recent times.

Another quantum leap was exemplified last year during China’s earthquake. Before seismologists could inform the world of the earthquake, there were instant images from many broadcast to many. The control of information dissemination is a huge issue in China and this caused a level of chaos. Schools were the hardest hit, and, it was discovered that government officials had received bribes to downgrade the quality of school building materials. Because China has a “one child policy” for parents, families lost their hope for the future…their only child. Government officials crawled through the streets begging for forgiveness. The world was witness. Many captured the news and broadcast it to many. Brie compared this shift to the chaos caused by the advent of the printing press, perhaps shorter in time span, but very potent.

Brie brought this point home in the example of Leads Club public notices. In the past, we put a notice in the Daily Breeze. That no longer works. The idea, shared by Brie and Pat, is to write articles that serve people, that entice them to look at our club. She shared that a realtor in another club had sold 2 houses in a few months JUST BECAUSE OF HER PRESENCE ON FACEBOOK!

She shared a statistic that 9 friendly, sharing posts to 1 business post is a good ratio, otherwise people will tune you out.

She said that only she and Jerry have signed up on the fan page for Leads Club.

Brie is on twitter as BrieWells510 and has a blog on blogger with the same name. Check it out!

Social media is HERE! Marketing to Gen X and Y requires awareness of this medium.

Our next speaker, Kazue Fakuda is a former teacher. She became a client of PrimMerica and then became the owner of her own business. She is once again a teacher, involved in helping families to create financial security. To do this, Kazue uses a document that illustrated The Theory of Increasing Responsibility. When we are young, we have heavy financial responsibilties and fewer assets. At a “cross-over point” a shift happens where we have fewer financial responsibilities and more assets. She likes to help families reach that cross-over point as quickly as possible so that they can have money when they want to spend on whatever they want.

Kazue meets with her clients once a year to evaluate their investments. She looks at changing needs in regards to life insurance, seeing when it should shift to long-term care insurance.

Our financial foundation must be strong, just like it is in our houses. She looks at protection management in financial terms, including auto and health insurance. Emergency funds (not savings) should be on hand to tide us over for 3-6 months, readily available from a safe source.

Debt management is part of her assessment. Credit cards, etc.

Kazue teaches her classes at her spacious home office on Crenshaw Blvd. Her extensive financial evaluation is FREE! Call her.

Our third speaker, Dr. Dennis Kinnane, spoke about the history of Blood Pressure treatments and medication. Stress, which is the American way of life, can lead to high blood pressure. He states that BP medication is today readily prescribed during one visit to a doctor’s office after just one high reading, which can be brought on by a number of stressful circumstances, sometimes just the act of having your BP taken! He feels like a true test would be more like a full week, 3X/day.

In Chinese medicine, BP is balanced by Kidney/Liver function. He has special Chinese herbs that he uses for each individual’s needs.

When asked if Chinese medicine could help someone quit smoking he answered, “Yes, but ONLY if the person is truly ready to quit.” It takes 2-3 weeks for success.

The theme for the second 30-second promotional was INDUSTRIOUSNESS. John Wooden exemplified this quality. He took notes during every practice. He compared notes with previous practices to compare where his team might need more emphasis. He would meet with his assistant coaches for two hours each day to plan his 90-minute practices. There were no idle moments, every activity had purpose. He believed in balance. He stressed the two cornerstones of his pyramid: INDUSTRIOUSNESS and ENTHUSIASM. They worked together. INDUSTRIOUSNESS without ENTHUSIASM becomes drudgery. He moved other blocks around in his pyramid in the 14 years it took to develop it, but he NEVER moved INDUSTRIOUSNESS and ENTHUSIASM. Guess what next week’s theme is? You got it, ENTHUSIASM!

We passed 3 leads today, 2 inside and 1 outside. Panned out leads amounted to $10,401, $458,000 to date. We should reach our goal of $500,000. Bring in those panned out Leads!

The Creed closed our meeting and visitors were given packets.

Favor: I should have used the word “tester” to describe the bowl of mineral treatments that I passed around. They were meant to help you select the correct skin tone to purchase. If you happen to have the deep tone, please let me know!

Hit “reply all” for additions and corrections.

Susie

P.S.: I sent last week’s notes out to some former members and they enjoyed reading about what we are up to.

Riviera Leads Club Meeting 11/10/2009

After reading the Leads Purpose Statement, Director Bernhard Hoehle invited us to spend a few moments in silence and/or prayer for the fallen soldiers who were “killed before they could even go into battle.”

We missed Carlene Delight, who is recovering from surgery, Robert Ciaccio and Donna Doan. Mike Rosenthal has informed everyone by email that his schedule does not permit him to attend regularly. Everyone sends Carlene well wishes and we look forward to seeing Donna and Robert next week! We will miss you at our meetings Mike, AND welcome you into our homes and offices for needed repairs and maintenance!

Brie announced that she will be moving on to other ventures with her career-consulting practice. She will complete all of her Leads contracts by year’s end. At present, she is in negotiations for positions, but no final decisions have been made except that it will be full time which will not allow her to continue with Leads. She will attend as much as possible and hopes to drop by now and then, just to visit.

The recent Leads mixer was discussed. Leader of the Year for our chapter is Carlene Delight who was unable to attend the mixer. Kazue and Bernhard shared their perceptions of the event. Kazue stated that she got a much clearer picture of how big Leads Club really is and that she was impressed by how much people want to help each other to be successful.

ASST Director Jerry Bottomley presented the trophy for Leads passed last week to his lovely wife Susie.

Inspiration Chair, Susie Bottomley, read from “Beyond Success,” introducing the theme for this week which is the final preparation for launching into the 15 Secrets of a Winning Life. The chapter, entitled, “A Structure for Internal Leadership,” spoke about how and Idea + Detail + Action = Actualization. He spent 14 years developing the Pyramid of Success using this formula.

Our first (and only) speaker, Ken Nagao started his presentation by sharing a story about his son’s saxophone that REALLY illustrated his point and underscored his resolve to give high quality and consistant customer service based on great communication.

He spoke about the need to adjust our sprinklers for the changing seasons, checking to make sure they are working properly. The north side of our houses need less water than south and east facing exposures. Too much water leads to fungus among us and disease. The best time to water is between 2-6 a.m. to prevent disease as well.

Tree trimming is essential for the health of our trees which are the most expensive plants to replace. Loss of a large, specimen tree can even lower your property value. Rain + wind can cause damage to untrimmed trees.

Grubs in the soil can cause damage to lawns.

Ken and his crew have discovered (with the help of U.C. Riverside), that worm castings applied to the soil around plants that have been attacted by white flies will change the taste of the plant and alleviate the problem. Hibiscus plants are very succeptible to this problem.

Call Ken to have his crew check out your sprinkler needs and make sure your trees will weather well. He has an arborist on his team.

We discussed the Holiday Stroll in Riviera Village, December 3 from 5-9. More details will be worked out. Mark your calendars.

Ally announced that there is still a short window to order special wine labels for your holiday gifts.

Numbers to date for our club are $447,822. Brie shared that Burbank chapter was at $467 last week. Turn in those panned out Leads!

Closing thoughts on our theme were centered around Focusing on Fundamentals. Brian Biro states that, “When using the pyramid as your road map to the fifteen secrets, three key fundamentals are most important.”

1. Develop inner perspective by personalizing the pyramid. Decide which areas are most important for you to develop.

2. Be an example. If we are to lead others with these principles, be certain that we are leading ourselves with the same principles.

3. Take an interdependent approach: use all the blocks to build our pyramids. Each block builds upon the others. Also, each principle must be applied to every facet of our lives to attain balance and harmony. That means professionally, personally, spiritually as well as with our families.

Next week the theme will be the first block of the pyramid: INDUSTRIOUSNESS

The creed was read by Bernhard and another great meeting came to a close. See you next week!
