Tryptophan – Safe, Effective Sleep Aid

Abstract: Tryptophan is the amino acid in turkey which is usually blamed for your after-dinner lethargy on Thanksgiving. Tryptophan is a highly effective and relatively safe sleep aid which can be taken as an over-the-counter pill. However, it was banned decades ago for causing three deaths in one year. In comparison, NSAIDs like ibuprophen (Advil) kill about 20,000 people per year. Ambien kills about 1300 per year and can cause suicidal thoughts. It took 20 years to get tryptophan back on the market. As with all supplements, choose your provider wisely to ensure consistent purity and efficacy.
